Dr. Athena Kenny was born and raised in the sunshine state of Florida. She attended the Florida State University and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science. After graduating, Dr. Athena retuned to the South Florida area where she started working at a dental office as a part-time dental assistant.
Dr. Athena went on to earned her Doctor of Dental Medicine at the UAB School of Dentistry in Birmingham, Alabama. It was during her time in dental school, Dr. Athena found excitement in caring for her little patients through rotations in pediatric clinics and community service projects. This led her to serve as a community service chairman for multiple dental school organizations (ASDA, SNDA) and mentor for students at a local high school. Upon completion, Dr. Athena entered into pediatric dental residency at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Through residency, Dr. Athena provided comprehensive oral health care through prevention, diagnosis, and treatment for children of all ages. She even saw special needs and complex multidisciplinary cases. In 2023, Dr. Athena achieved her board certification status through the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry (ABPD). She also is currently a member of the American Association of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) and College of Diplomates of the ABPD.
With Dr. Athena’s family originating from the island of Jamaica, she is passionate about quality dental care to children in underserved communities. This has led her on many dental mission trips to provide treatment while educating on the importance of proper oral healthcare. Her goal one day is to establish her own mission trip to her family’s homeland to provide care to the local children.
Dr. Athena’s thrilled to be working alongside the Kidstown Dental team. With providing a multidisciplinary approach, she looks forward to using fun and innovative techniques to create healthy smiles and encourage routine oral habits. Dr. Athena cherishes moments of creating exciting first dental visits. She also believes in providing a nurturing dental home where her patients feel reassured they are in a safe place to fulfill their dental needs.
In her free time, Dr. Athena enjoys visiting family, traveling, volunteering, weightlifting, playing tennis, and collecting sneakers.
