My name is Jamie and I would love to share a little about myself and what I do here at Kidstown Dental, as well as the journey that brought me here.
From the beginning: Our family used to foster parent children. Several of the children were special needs. This was kind of unusual where we lived, and taught me great life lessons. Later, my first job was as a nanny for 5 years. One of the children in the family that I nannied for also had special needs. I don’t think things happen by accident!
In 2009 I received my certification to be a registered dental assistant. I worked at another pediatric dental office in Katy for 3 years. Sometimes things just don’t end up being a fit, and so I found myself looking to move offices. I am so glad I found Kidstown Dental and Dr. Amy. Here we do something called the “D-Termined Program” and I am the main facilitator of this program. In this program we work with children on the Spectrum, desensitizing them and using repetitive sequencing to help these children learn each step on a routine visit. Parents are often amazed how quickly their children acclimate. I believe being around special needs children as a child and young adult helped me to feel very comfortable working with this special population.
I am naturally quiet and a bit shy. I don’t feel this way when working with families here. In fact, Dr. Amy and I are hoping to one day in the near future work together to open a special needs dental office for all ages. I feel very supported by her, and encouraged to go deeper into my skills in this area. I am attending college at night. Stay tuned for how God uses all the unique experiences he has given me.
Oh, in my time away from work and school, I enjoy spending time with my husband, son, 2 dogs, 1 cat and birds. I also enjoy staying fit by running and hula hooping! It is really fun and I am trying to learn tricks with weighted hula hoops. You should give it a try…flash to the past!
